VALLEY & HK SCOTTISH CONTROL KPMG PREMIERSHIP COMPETITIONS AFTER TWO ROUNDS

10th Dec 2019

Societe Generale Valley and Bloomberg Hong Kong Scottish remain the last undefeated teams in their respective KPMG Premierships after two rounds.

With four rounds left in the league title chase, Valley lead the elite KPMG Premiership Top 4 competition with a perfect ten points on the table, including two bonus points, after handing out a punishing 42-5 loss to an injury-depleted BorrellI Walsh USRC Tigers on Saturday brought their points total to 90 from two matches.

Valley’s win pushes their unbeaten streak to nine on the season, two in the KPMG Premiership Top 4, and seven from the rankings rounds.

In other Top 4 action, Gai Wu Falcons’ less than convincing 26-19 win over Natixis HKFC Ice, saw them leapfrog Tigers into second, with the two top contenders to unseat Valley facing off in a pivotal clash next Saturday.

Gai Wu barely outlasted HKFC, as the Football Club side gets their first points on the Top 4 table with a bonus point for losing within seven.

Gai Wu lead 26-5 at halftime, but seemed to have taken their foot off the gas in the second, as Club fought back well with a 46th minute try to prop Cheryl Gourley.

Club struck again through reserve front row Eto Wong, whose 72nd minute try was converted by Anna Birkett, bringing Club within another score of tying but Gai Wu’s rear-guard defence held strong down the stretch.

In Premiership A action, Bloomberg HK Scottish continued their successful first Premiership season, holding on at the top of the Prem A table for a second week as the only undefeated side in the minor championship.

Handed a stiff challenge from Transact 24 Tai Po Dragons in an entertaining clash, Scottish proved up to the test after winless Tai Po jumped out to a 10-0 lead at half time.

A stung Scottish XV went to work on that margin in the final forty minutes, scoring its first points in the 44th minute through a try from winger Lau Wai-yi.

Scottish levelled the score heading into the final quarter after a try from lock Ng Suet-ying.

Tai Po kept their heads up and even reclaimed the lead just four minutes later through no.8 Chan Tsz-ching’s try, with the conversion giving them a five-point margin at 17-12 inside the final 20 minutes.

An exciting finish saw Scottish level the scores minutes later after a try from prop Terri Lau. The pressure conversion from fly half Cheung Hang-yin was good keeping Scottish’s winning streak intact.

Kerry Hotel Kowloon suffered a disappointing lost to SCAA First Pacific Causeway Bay, allowing 19 unanswered points in the second half after mustering a 19-10 lead at the break. The win for Causeway Bay pulls them level in the standings with Kowloon in tied-second, each on five points and both chasing Scottish’s nine. Tai Po collected their first point on the table for the loss within seven.
