NAN FUNG GROUP | AIRSIDE HONG KONG PREMIERSHIP: ROUND 5 REVIEW

PUBLISHED ON 05 NOV 2025
Round 5 of the 2025/26 Nan Fung Group | AIRSIDE Hong Kong Premiership brought an end to the first third of the season as we head into the international break for the Hong Kong China Men’s and Women’s XVs teams.
In the Women’s Premiership, Societe Generale Valley RFC were winners again, as were Causeway Sandy Bay for the first time this season. At the same time, HKFC Natixis Ice and Kroll USRC Tigers Women played out the women's first draw of the season.
In the Men’s Premiership, Societe Generale Valley RFC were undefeated, while HKFC Natixis Club and Kowloon Rugby Club emerged victorious in this round.
For both Premierships, Societe Generale Valley RFC remain at the top of the logs and are still the only undefeated teams this season. Round 6 resumes on November 26.
Women’s Premiership
HKFC Natixis Ice 7-7 Kroll USRC Tigers Women
After both sides secured wins last week, they headed into this round vying for second position on the log. The teams played out a closely fought but low-scoring 7-7 draw.
The scores were level at the break, and neither side could unlock their opposition for the winning points.
Special mention to Shonagh Ryan, who reached 150 caps for HKFC.
Kroll USRC Tigers Women still occupy second in the Prem with the same number of log points as HKFC Natixis Ice but with the smallest points differential advantage of 1.

Kowloon Rugby Club 12-30 Causeway Sandy Bay
The two teams were without a win coming into the 5th round and were looking for a confidence boost before the break. It was the visiting Causeway Sandy Bay who triumphed 30-12 over Kowloon away from home.
The match was level at the halftime hooter but the victors pulled away in the second half to score 18 unanswered points.
Kevin Moggridge, Head Coach and Women's Club Coaching Office said pre-season. “I think we're just probably a couple more steps up the rung of the ladder than we were last year. There's still always work to do on that, but we are enjoying the project. We call it The Project. I like it.”
Causeway Sandy Bay are 5th in the standings ahead of Kowloon who remain without any log points and a negative points differential of 340.

Societe Generale Valley RFC 43-0 Clement Shield/VetiVa Gai Wu Falcons
Defending champions and undefeated log leaders Societe Generale Valley RFC made it 5 wins in a row to start the campaign, defeating Clement Shield/VetiVa Gai Wu Falcons comprehensively as the visitors suffered consecutive defeats heading into the break.
Valley were up 19-0 heading into the second half after Tiffany Hiu San Fu, Wing Yan Leung, and Ella Lynam crossed the try line.
They closed the result out with an additional 24 points as the Gai Wu side couldn't match the season's runaway leaders. Hasting Leiataua, Jayme Nuku, Zoe Smith and Katrina Roszynski all scored tries in the second period.
Valley RFC top the ladder with 5 wins and 5 bonus points and a huge points differential of 283+ having only conceded 22 points across the 5 fixtures.
Gai Wu Falcons are fourth in the standings on 10 points and two wins.

Men’s Premiership
Kroll USRC Tigers RFC 25-29 HKFC Natixis Club
The two teams had a reversal of fortunes this weekend with HKFC, bouncing back from a disappointing home defeat last weekend, to beat USRC Tigers away from home and end a three-match win streak for Nigel Hotham’s side in the weekend's only Friday fixture.
Despite outscoring the winners four tries to three, the hosts lost the contest but will head into the break second in the men's Prem, and will be happy to be in the playoff contention, although it's still early in the season.
HKFC hold onto the final playoff spot on 4th but have played a game less and have won two from four thus far.
The Head Coach is still Logan Asplin as he balances his Hong Kong China Men’s representative XV duties, but a Men’s HKFC CCO announcement is imminent. Asplin had said of the club at the start of the campaign, “I kind of like being the club that everyone loves to hate. That's a good way to be but still doing it with the right morals and be good guys and accept that you've got to show humility.”

Societe Generale Valley RFC 21-8 Milwaukee Hong Kong Scottish
Table-toppers Valley RFC, like their women's Prem team, made it 5 from 5 to kickstart the season in which they are celebrating the club's 50th season.
Hong Kong Scottish were in front at the break 8-7, not the first time they have had the edge at halftime this campaign. A Thomas Wilson penalty and Jacquin Moses try for Milwaukee Hong Kong Scottish had them leading by the break.
In the second half, two converted tries for Valley and a scoreless HK Scottish side saw the game end 21-8.
Valley lead the log as the only undefeated side and has also picked up handy bonus points to steer six points ahead of Tigers.
In a milestone season, Club Head Coach and CCO Augustine Leger said at the season’s start, “For a club that doesn't have a clubhouse physically, the fact that we've got a community without having bricks and mortar, and we just appreciate that people are part of the Valley programme. I'm very, very grateful and privileged to be part of the Valley programme for this third season.”
HK Scottish are still looking for a first win this season, but will remain buoyed that they have been competitive in every match so far. They prop up the table with two losing bonus points.

Kowloon Rugby Club 25-23 HKU Sandy Bay RFC
Kowloon have been one of the surprise packages this season in the Men's Prem and defeated the new-look defending champions at home.
HKU Sandy Bay RFC were just ahead by the end of the first half, 14-13, but a Josh Godsiff try and penalties from Dylan White kept Kowloon in the game.
They did well to overturn the deficit in the second half as they had to fight through 10 minutes with 14 men as Samuel Gwynne Carroll was yellow carded, but Sandy Bay also had Finn Hamilton spend time in the sin-bin.
Yet again Vincent O 'Brien scored a double off the bench for Kowloon to secure the win late in the game.
Kowloon occupy third with 15 log points, and HKU Sandy Bay RFC sit in 5th having played a game less, with one win from four games.
Kowloon Men’s Head Coach Lewis Wilson had said of what it meant to be leading the club into their 50th season, “It's a massive privilege, the amount of players, the quality of players, the coaches who've been through the club. It's pretty remarkable, and I am really proud to be part of it.”
