Hong Kong Rugby Community Rallies for Women’s Sport at World Rugby WXV Challenger Hong Kong 2026

[Hong Kong, 3 September 2026]:  This month, 138 of the world’s leading rugby athletes are streaming to Hong Kong from five countries on four continents for a celebration of elite women’s sport in the inaugural World Rugby WXV Challenger 2026.  

Hong Kong China Rugby (HKCR) and the HKCR Women’s XVs, ranked 16th in the world, are excited to host the national teams of Fiji, Spain, Samoa, Netherlands, and Brazil with all of the sporting hospitality that the city and its rugby community are famous for from 5-29 September.  

Three match days will be held at the Kai Tak Youth Sports Ground (13, 19, and 26 Sept).  Team Hong Kong China will feature in the middle match of each round with kick-off of all HKCR test matches at 15.30. These are the first home test matches for the HKCR representative team since 2024.

With the Hong Kong team in the hunt, over 6,000 tickets have already been sold and distributed to the tournament’s community and commercial partners.  With just over 1,000 tickets remaining for each of the three individual rounds, fans are encouraged to act fast. 

The World Rugby WXV Challenger Hong Kong 2026 is proud of being an “M” Mark event that helps enhance the image of Hong Kong as Asia’s sports event capital. The “M” Mark awarded by the Major Sports Events Committee, symbolising intense, spectacular and signature event in the territory sports calendar. 

From a captain’s photo on the city’s amazing harbour to Ocean Park and the city’s unmissable dining and shopping hotspots, visiting teams and fans will experience all that the city has to offer during their near month-long stay. 

Legacy is at the heart of Hong Kong China Rugby and the WXV Challenger 2026 Hong Kong, and the teams have selflessly donated their time to help create a long-lasting impact for women’s sport.  

The month will see engagements with local schools and community groups and come to a meaningful close with ‘The HCKR Woman in Rugby Summit: From Opportunity to Impact’ before kick-off on Saturday, 19 Sept. 

WXV Challenger 2026 Hong Kong Community Day on 5 September 

With anticipation mounting, the local rugby community will get a sneak peek of the action this Saturday when Hong Kong China warms up against Samoa at King’s Park.

The 90-minute moderated training match will feature the 28-woman Hong Kong China squad named for the tournament and will be preceded by a festival of rugby at Kings Park including a Mini WXV tournament with over 250 local ruggers taking part including Mini Rugby and girls players at U9-12 levels and girls rugby skills session involving another 100 players at higher age grades lead by members of the HKCR sevens squads. 

The Mini WXV will see participants outfitted in replica playing jerseys of the WXV Challenger participants. More importantly, participating players are given education packs to learn more about rugby and the nations involved in WXV ahead of the tournament. The packs include fun facts, games and puzzles and, of course, an autograph page for after the match when these aspiring girl players will have a chance to meet and greet their senior icons.

Good things come in threes at the WXV with nine world-class games split across three days of triple-header matches and non-stop action. Single round tickets are HK$180 for adults, HK$140 for students, and HK$100 for kids. Reserved seating starts at HK$250. The tournament package offers all three rounds and all games starting from HK$250 for kids, HK$350 for students, and HK$450 for adults. Tickets are on sale through the Hong Kong China Rugby Ticketing Platform and the HKCR Ticketing App.
